Salam Aleykoum , Hi , Bonjour to all my readers !
First of all , let me introduce myself . I am an european lady living in Dubai in United Arab Emirates , I just got married few months ago with an emarati man .
Many people are asking me : Why did you get married with someone from the Gulf ?
Family , friends and everyone told me to be carefull , that I will be probably in jail , that he has 2 others wives (which is not true) or that I am crazy ( in love , yes)
I think that they are wrong to think this way but they are rights in some things but I am sure that everything is destiny ...
I did this blog to tell about me , about my new life in an arab country and about my hobbies .
Who ever you are , you can leave your comments and share your experience or point of view about all topics in my blog.

Salam,
I am Muslim from France as well and my husband is Emirati, I actually share your opinion. The Emirati lady who wrote this article somehow missed the point...
As you said am not gona exchange my ID (French) against the UAE ID and it was not my point when I got married.
Regarding the luxury lifestyle...not all Emiratis are wealthy as you well pointed and lot of foreign ladies who married local men had to leave their private residence for a room in the house where her husband, his brothers/sisters, parents and sometimes aunties and grandparents are living...where is the luxury/comfort of private living lifestyle in this???
Communication. I doubt strongly that local girls have issues to communicate with local guys...anywhere is fine...
Cost of marrying a local lady...often the maher asked by the local girl/her family is way beyond what our religion set and men end up spending way more than what they get back....here is the trick: either you marry a local girl, hire a maid, cooker, driver and nurse or you simply marry a foreign lady and you get it all in one!!! It doesn't take long to think about it...does it??!!
I guess the issue of Emirati women not getting married is a long outstanding issue and that we can't really put all the blame over the expats...I personally know a scary number ( I confess!) of women ages between 40 and 75 who never got married till date...just think about it...were there that much expat 25-50 years ago??? not really.......
Inchallah she will meet the right one for her, whatever his nationality his...
Salam Jasmine & Denyia,
I'm also French married to an Emirati since 5 years. I came across your blog and comments on Gulf News article. I'm glad to see that I'm not alone! I disagree with most of it as well.
I think the main issue is that the authorities refuse to give Emirati Women the same right as Emirati Men to get married to a Muslim foreigner of their choice and prevent their children from getting UAE citizenship. This is unfair.
The citizenship should come from either the father or the mother, but not strictly restricted to men. I'm sure many Emirati women would be relieved if the law was passed and so many will get married too.
I agree that the demography is unbalanced with only 15% of the total population being locals, but this is the consequence of choices made in the past by the government to develop tremendously the country.
Why blaming the foreigners now? Mix marriages are a direct, predictable consequence.
I'm holding a French passport and didn't get married for the potential benefits a UAE passport will grant me. We got married because we share the same values, the same interests, the same vision of life and particularly because we love each other very much.
I'm not saying that it was easy. We had, especially at the beginning, lots of issues, cultural misunderstandings, language barriers... But with patience and open hearted communication, we manage to overcome them.
I believe that if you force Emirati Men to marry Emirati Women, it will create another deeper issue. If the decision doesn't come from their own personal choice, then the same Emirati Women will suffer badly at the end. They will have to face the ugly consequences: exposed adultery, unloved relationship, loneliness, depression, etc. And become one of his 3 or 4 wives! Will Emirati Women be happy at the end? I don't think so.
